Feed Your Bees Or They Could Starve

This is the time of year when your bees most likely will starve if you don’t give them food.  They have depleted their stores of honey.  It is warm one day and snow and freezing the next.  Crazy weather!

My bees have lots of honey left but I didn’t want to take any chances as they can go through their stores of honey in just days….

There is no nectar or pollen yet so they depend on us to help them out.

Here is my recipe using organic ingredients….

4 cups organic cane sugar

3 ounces of filtered water

1/4 tsp of Himalayan Pink Crystal Salt

2 drops Lemongrass essential oil.

Bee sugar food with sig

When it gets semi-hard you score it with a knife.

I got into my hive and place the sugar on the hive and man did they love it!

I tasted it too and I’m telling you I wouldn’t mind eating it either, it was delish!

Bees on their sugar with sig

I don’t know if you can see, but the bees started sucking it down as soon as I put it on the hive.  So many bees in fact you can hardly see the sugar…

I think they where very hungry and I’m so glad I did fed them as we are expecting yet ANOTHER cold spell….  I can sleep well knowing my sweet bees are well fed.

Everyone in Tennessee is so ready for warmer weather and I’m ready to dig in some dirt!
